LIFELIKE is one of the most talented producers in France’s celebrated dance-music scene and has always occupied a unique position at the vanguard of the French electronic movement. His CV boasts a wealth of hit productions, collaborations and remixes that have cemented his place in dancemusic history. LIFELIKE’s first artistic production, enclosed the last years of French Disco madness. ‘The Soul Of My Love’, was released in ’2001 on Demon’s iconic 20000ST Parisian label (responsible for ‘You Are My High’ worldwide hit).
Followed the next year by the underground hit ‘Black Chess’ that lead him to be playlisted months long by Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter & DJ Falcon as the first track that introduced their ‘Together 2002’ World Tour music.
It wasnt long until French Touch Icon’s Alan Braxe noticed him (Alan was behind the huge summer hit of 98’ Stardust ‘Music Sounds Better Wi th You’ ) and decided to sign his single ‘Discopolis’ (coproduced with Kris Menace) on his label Vul ture, the biggest French underground label after Roulé.
‘Discopolis’ was the biggest undeground sellings of 2005 and instant classic, entering the Official UK Top 40 that summer with only vinyl sellings. Boosted by a MTV censored video from Seb Janiak (director of Daft Punk’s ‘Burnin’ video), the track was re-released the year after with some heavy remixes (Chris Lake, Kerri Chandler, Alan Braxe..), a CD single, and became again n°1 in the Beatport charts for another 3weeks. (The track is still played today by DJ’s all around the world).
‘So Electric’ the long awaited follow up, has been on the same way than ‘Discopolis’ and gained huge support, especially in the USA which lead him to tour in summer 2008 for 10 dates in America and Canada with Alan Braxe. The track was signed on Wall Of Sound & Pias, homelabel for Artists like Tiga, Vitalic, 2 Many DJ’s, Felix Da housecat etc… It was not long before a multitude of big-name artists came knocking on Laurent’s door hoping to secure his unique touch on their own material. Remixes for the likes of Moby, Empire Of The Sun, Chromeo and La Roux , just to name a few of them, are testament to LIFELIKE’s esteem and reputation within the music industry.
When not touring the world as a DJ (rocking parties from Kitsuné to Ministry Of Sound, to Creamfields festival to Avalon, LA or Webster Hall/NYC) Laurent benefits from the opportunity to experiment musically and move in new directions with his music on Vulture – as evidenced by the Future Disco hit ‘‘Sequencer’ &
‘Sunset’ this year, topping for another couple of weeks the independants charts last year, and even more now on his brand new record label “Computer Science”.
2012 will see Lifelike releasing his first artist album featuring a number of high profile collaborations with friends.
